Getting your articles published

The art of pitching the correct ideas

It all starts with the idea of what you want to write about. There are many topics and many opportunities to get published and paid for your efforts in capturing an angle of an overarching story.

This could be any story. It could be about happiness, suffering, justice, pollution, science, gardening, or whatever else is considered interesting for a publisher.

The most important aspect is the angle that you take.

Instead of writing one pitch for many publishers, write a few pitches for a few publishers. Narrow down, and do your research.

  • What stories are they covering?
  • Is there an angle that you could cover that hasn’t been covered before?
  • Why should YOU be the one to cover it?

However, the most important thing is to get started. It’s better to write one bad pitch per week per publisher, rather than no pitches at all.

The sooner you start, the sooner you will build a relationship with the editors of any given publication. Based on this relationship, you will have generated your opportunity to contribute, earn, and make a living off of writing.

This is a short blog post, but there is a lot to unpack here.

Remember, keep trying, keep learning, and keep improving.

Everything else is secondary.

Start now.
