Do I have to?

When you don’t feel like doing the things that you ought to do.

We all know how it feels to have much on your plate, but not the willpower to back it up. It’s how I feel right now. However, one thing is certain as day. Emotions are only guidance, not the path itself. Even as a highly emotional person, I do my best to in spite of my emotions, whether they be positive or negative.

Yes, I can’t help but notice that my writing is painted in whatever emotion I was feeling at the time. It wouldn’t be the first time an editor has returned an article to me, saying “You could try being a bit optimistic about the situation.”

These feelings when there’s much to do, and not enough time to do it, make it easy for us to crash, burn, and feel no remorse about backing out of the game. Alternatively, we can push on, risking burnout, and do our best to deliver on our promises.

It’s not an easy decision.

On one hand, you will be free and disappointed, on the other extremely busy and probably a failure. However, there is a silver lining.

Instead of mooding over the decision on should you show up and do the work, just start instead. Start and see where it takes you.

Whining and thinking that you shouldn’t have to do as much as you are supposed to do or is expected of you is not beneficial to anyone, especially yourself.

Naturally, as long as you get paid in the end. I’m not recommending working for free, but it’s useful to train yourself to act regardless of your mood.

It’s a trait of a professional.

So, what are you waiting for?

I’m about to continue working on delivering on the promises I’ve made to my clients, and I suggest you get started too!
